May is the Month of Mary. As we focus our prayer on Our Lady, why not follow our series ‘Full of Grace’? We pray the Hail Mary in a different language each day.

We pray the Hail Mary today in Tagalog. Tagalog is spoken as a first language by the ethnic Tagalog people who make up a quarter of the population of the Philippines. While Filipino is the official language, Tagalog is also spoken as a second language in the Philippines by a majority of the population.
Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle, former Archbishop of Manila now Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples, sums up his nation’s devotion to Our Lady:
“We are a people, a nation in love with the Blessed Virgin Mary because she loves us… I know this because I have experienced it in my family, my hometown, in my life and in my ministry.”
The power of prayer overcomes the difficulties we face with the COVID19 pandemic. We have been sent – through Facebook messenger, WhatsApp voice notes and email – recitations of this sacred prayer that we pray through the decades of the Rosary.
The aim is that we stand in solidarity with believers the world over and entrust our joys and sorrows (and everything in-between) to Mary.
Our audio is truly global – for example our Burmese Hail Mary comes from Yangon engulfed in a frightening coup that certainly needs our prayers.

Our Lady of Częstochowa is very important to our Polish brothers and sisters. An icon or image of the ‘Black Madonna’ can be found in almost all Polish churches and homes.
In Poland, Częstochowa is regarded as the spiritual capital. The shrine at Jasna Góra is also one of the most frequented Marian shrines in Europe.
Pope Pius XI designated 3 May the Solemnity of Our Lady of Częstochowa, Queen of Poland. It’s a Polish national feast and public holiday because of the declaration of the Constitution that took place on 3 May 1791 – the first constitution in Europe.
So on 3 May, we pray the Hail Mary in Polish.
Our Lady of Częstochowa, Queen of Poland, pray for us.
Mary, Queen of Poland, I am near you, I remember you, I watch.
