The joyful news of Christ’s birth has inspired Christians throughout the centuries to sing the praises of God says Monsignor Philip Whitmore. And, he adds, Christmas carols are among the best loved of all forms of sacred music.
Mgr Whitmore is the rector of one of our seminaries for priests-in-training in Rome – the Venerable English College.
In this programme, produced by Vatican Radio’s Veronica Scarisbrick, Mgr Whitmore invites us to enjoy Christmas celebrations on a musical note:
“I do hope you’ll have the opportunity to celebrate by singing some of the great heritage of carols that have come down to us over the centuries, form different countries, different continents.
“There’s some very fine music among them, and how right that it should be so: only the best is good enough to sing the praises of the everlasting Father, the Prince of Peace.”
