The Secretary General of the Hindu Council UK has written to the Bishops’ Conference to offer “sincere prayers and good wishes” to Pope Benedict ahead of his retirement on 28 February.
Sanjay Jagatia also recalled the Pope’s historic State visit to the UK in 2010:
“The gathering was an excellent opportunity to demonstrate that there is much that can be achieved when we all work together for the greater good for society as a whole. The Hindu Council UK endorses that religions have far more commonalities than differences and we welcomed the moves that The Holy Father made to help forge unity and foster greater understanding between faiths.”

Retirement of Pope Benedict XVI
On behalf of the Hindu Community in the UK, may I take this opportunity to offer our sincere prayers and good wishes to Pope Benedict XV1, following the announcement that he will be retiring at the end of February 2013. We pray that God will bless him profoundly in retirement with good health and peace of mind and heart.
The Hindu Community along with other Faith Communities, fondly remember the Pope’s visit to the United Kingdom in September 2010, when The Holy Father took time out to meet Faith Leaders and discussed with us the core aspects of religion and belief in our society and the role Religious Leaders can play in promoting peace and serving humanity.
The gathering was an excellent opportunity to demonstrate that there is much that can be achieved when we all work together for the greater good for society as a whole. The Hindu Council UK endorses that religions have far more commonalities than differences and we welcomed the moves that The Holy Father made to help forge unity and foster greater understanding between faiths.
We ask people of all faiths to keep Pope Benedict in their prayers.
With all good wishes and prayers,
Yours brotherly,
Sanjay Jagatia
