Mgr John Wilson, Apostolic Administrator of the Diocese of Leeds, has issued a statement on the tragic killing of Mrs Ann Maguire at Corpus Christi Catholic College, Leeds:
“It is with deep sadness that we learned the tragic and shocking news that Mrs Ann Maguire, a longstanding and much loved teacher at Corpus Christi Catholic College in Leeds, was fatally wounded on Monday in an incident at the College.
“The sincere sympathy and prayers of everyone in the Diocese of Leeds are with her husband, her children, and her friends, at this very difficult time of loss. We are also remembering in our prayers the staff and students of the College and the entire local community.
“Ann had taught at Corpus Christi for forty years and was planning to retire soon. She was an outstanding teacher, gifted with a warm and loving personality. Her contribution to the life of the College was immense. She taught generations of students including parents of some students currently at the College. The outpouring of affection for her, particularly through the floral tributes and messages of condolence placed outside the College, many by past and present students, bears testimony to the great esteem in which she was held.
“Ann was a woman of strong Catholic faith and a deep commitment to her vocation as a teacher. She will be deeply missed by so many people. We pray to the Lord that she may she rest in peace and rise in glory.”
