The Compendium of Catholic Social Doctrine is launched in the UK today by President of the Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace H.E. Cardinal Renato Martino and H.E Cardinal Cormac Murphy-O’Connor.
Cardinal Cormac Murphy- O’Connor has welcomed the publication as a landmark event. “Many are surprised to know that Catholics have a systematic approach to what are commonly regarded as “social” or “political” questions. It is a teaching that deserves to be better known – and now will be, thanks to this immensely useful distillation of more than 100 years of the great social encyclicals, from Rerum Novarum to Centessimus Annus. There is great wisdom here, for the benefit of all.”
The launch is taking place at the Houses of Parliament and is hosted by Lord Daniel Brennan QC from the Catholic Union.
The Compendium has been compiled by the Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace at the request of Pope John Paul II.It is published in the UK by Continuum Books.
