The Republic of Belarus, formerly known as Byelorussia or Belorussia, is a landlocked country in Eastern Europe. It is bordered by Russia to the northeast, Ukraine to the south, Poland to the west, and Lithuania and Latvia to the northwest. Its capital is Minsk. Catholicism is a minority religion and Catholics number approximately two million – almost 20% of the population.
