Cardinal Vincent Nichols is in Rome for the 2018 Synod of Bishops meeting – an international gathering of bishops – focussing on young people, faith and vocational discernment.
Here’s a report from the Cardinal after Friday morning’s session on Day Three of the three-week meeting.
The Synod Fathers are about to work together in small common language groups.
Here the Cardinal talks about the powerful discussions he has witnessed and the need for a ‘culture of listening’ when older and younger generations communicate with each other.
Quoting Pope John XXIII he says:
“Young people need to remember that the world didn’t begin with them – it existed before them. And old people have to remember that the world will exist after them.”
Cardinal Nichols also discusses the sorrow and pain caused by the recent abuse scandal and the impact this has had on discussions.
