A statement has been released explaining why Cardinal Vincent Nichols had to leave the Remembrance service at Westminster’s Metropolitan Cathedral of the Most Precious Blood on Sunday, 11 November:
“Yesterday, during the Remembrance service at the Cathedral, Cardinal Nichols was taken unwell and had to leave the service.
“He has been seen by his doctor today who has certified him unfit to attend the hearing this week.
“Cardinal Nichols had been working hard to prepare for his evidence tomorrow. He is keen to return to give his evidence once he is well again.”
The Cardinal was due to give evidence to the UK’s Independent Inquiry into Child Sexual Abuse (IICSA) on his time as Archbishop of Birmingham.
