Statement from the Most Reverend Vincent Nichols President of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of England and Wales on the appointment of Reverend Keith Newton as the First Ordinary of the Personal Ordinariate in England and Wales:
“I welcome the news of the appointment by His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI of Keith Newton as the First Ordinary of the Personal Ordinariate in England and Wales.
“I am confident that Keith will prove to be a valued member of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference and will be warmly welcomed by clergy and faithful throughout the Catholic Church in England and Wales.
“I assure Keith, as well as Andrew Burnham and John Broadhurst, of the continuing prayers and support of the Bishops’ Conference, as they now begin their new ministry within the Catholic Church in the Personal Ordinariate. Dedicated as it is to Our Lady of Walsingham and under the patronage of Blessed John Henry Newman, the Ordinariate and its members can be secure in the powerful intercession of the Mother of God and a great confessor of the faith.”
