Press release issued by the Diocese of Lancaster
2 June 2010
I share in the profound sense of shock and loss that so many are feeling at today’s news of the deaths and injuries in West Cumbria. My prayers, and the prayers of the Catholic community of the Diocese of Lancaster, are with the families and friends of the victims. I especially pray for the souls of the departed – may God be merciful to them. The prayers of all of us, too, are with the injured and the bereaved at this time.
I would also like to thank the Cumbria Constabulary and the Emergency Services for all that they do to keep the people of Cumbria safe and protected from harm, often at great risk to themselves. We are deeply indebted to them all.
I know that in the face of tragedy the people of Cumbria always rally round to do what they can to help. You will all be in my prayers over the coming weeks and months as those communities most effected try to come to terms with this senseless act of evil.
Yours devotedly,
+Michael Campbell OSA
Bishop of Lancaster
