It's estimated that at least two-thirds of the baptised Catholic community in England and Wales are non-churchgoing - approximately four million people. This makes a significant constituency of people who, in most cases, self-identify as Catholic but never or rarely attend Mass. The Department for Evangelisation and Catechesis has initiated a national project to support ministry to this group of people.

Home Mission Sunday is an annual day on which the Bishops invite parishes across England and Wales to pray for and support Home Mission. A recent theme was ‘Crossing the Threshold’ and had as its focus on ministry and outreach to non-churchgoing Catholics.
