The Most Reverend Peter Smith is the Archbishop of Southwark. Born in Battersea in October 1943, Archbishop Smith was ordained to the priesthood in July 1972.

Between 1985 and 1995, he was Rector at St. John's Seminary, Wonersh before being ordained Bishop of East Anglia in 1995. Six years later, in 2001, he was installed Archbishop of Cardiff.

Archbishop Smith is Chair of the Bishops’ Conference Department for Christian Responsibility and Citizenship.

He was elected Vice President of the Catholic Bishops' Conference of England and Wales on 30 April 2009 and was Installed Archbishop of Southwark on 10 June 2010.
