Rt Rev Paul McAleenan, Auxiliary Bishop of Westminster

The Right Reverend Paul McAleenan is an Auxiliary Bishop for the Diocese of Westminster.

Born in Belfast on 15 July 1951, Bishop-elect McAleenan was ordained to the priesthood in June 1985.

Prior to his priestly ordination, he worked in engineering until September 1979. After this he attended St. Patrick’s College, Thurles, County Tipperary in the Republic of Ireland.

Bishop McAleenan's previous posts include assistant priest roles at Our Lady of Grace and St Edward, Chiswick (1985-1987) and St Aidan’s in East Acton. He has served as a chaplain at Hammersmith Hospital (1987-1990) as well as Parish Priest at St Scholastica’s in Clapton (1994-2001) and Holy Rood, Watford (2001-2015).

He was appointed Member of Cathedral Chapter in 2010 before being appointed by Pope Francis to serve as an Auxiliary Bishop of Westminster on 24 November 2015 with the Titular See of Mercia.
