William Kenney

The Right Reverend William Kenney is an Auxiliary Bishop for the Archdiocese of Birmingham. Born in Newcastle-upon-Tyne in May 1946, Bishop Kenney was ordained to the priesthood in June 1969. He was ordained Auxiliary Bishop of Stockholm and Vicar General on 24 August 1987. From 1991 to 1999, He was Chair of Caritas Europe and Vice-Chair of Caritas Internationalis.

The Holy Father announced the appointment of Bishop Kenney as auxiliary Bishop for the Archdiocese of Birmingham on 17 October 2006. Bishop Kenney is the Bishops’ Conference spokesman on European affairs and represents the Bishops’ Conference of England and Wales at COMECE – the Commission of the Bishops’ Conferences of the European Community.

He is Episcopal Liaison to the National Board of Catholic Women, is part of the annual Holy Land Co-ordination pilgrimage and is a member of the Department of International Affairs.
